Cures For Snoring – How I Cured My Partners Snoring

by Betty Teal on March 3, 2010

Before you can consider any cures for snoring you have to look at some of the underlying causes first. The main reason for this is that each cause may require a different solution.

If you are married to a snorer, then you realize how irritating it gets be when the snoring begins, it just seems to get worse as the night goes on. You prod him, you ask him to shift his position and it stops for a short time and then it begins again!

A trip to our doctor and a bit of medication, and I was able to sleep again! In reality our doctor believes that we were very lucky to find a cure so easily. The cure for snoring which entails taking medication only has a 25% success rate - 3 months later and he was snoring worse than ever.

So why is the success rate so low?

It appears as though people are more content using medication whether it be prescribed or over the counter because it's easier to manage. It's easy and snorers and/or their partners think it's going to work, and guess what - after a short while, the problem returns. This is because, although medication may relieve the symptoms, the cause of the problem still remains.

Daily life choices.

Snoring like most health-related concerns typically has a lifestyle element attached that is a key contributing factor. That is why it is sensible to sit down with your doctor and/or partner and try to isolate environmental and or possible physical causes.

For example, if you are 5'10" and weigh 250 pounds there is a serious chance that your weight is a contributing factor. If you are a heavy smoker then likewise. These are factors because the chief cause of snoring is the blockage of the palette and/or nasal channels when the muscles relax as you sleep. If you are too fat then these ways clog up the airways producing the snoring sound. In this case, dropping your weight would help alleviate your snoring problem. Pills won't cure this problem long term that's a fact!

There are also environmental causes. One of the least known contributors is the 'quality of the air that you breathe.

As a matter of fact, air conditioning might be a major cause as it dries the air, and also the sinus and the throat passages which heightens the snoring which can be very easily alleviated.

Are you allergic to anything? Do you have allergies?

Many people today are also suffering from allergies and a lot of these allergies can cause serious problems especially to the sinus. So look at the possibility of allergy triggers existing in the bedroom like pet hair, or even some pillows. By clearing some of these potential causes of allergies, one of the chief culprits in producing a snoring problem can be reduced or eradicated.
