Stuff That Can Trigger An Allergic Reaction

by Miguel Huang on February 16, 2010

When symptoms like a runny nose, continuous sneezing and coughing, or prickly rashes on the body are making your life miserable, it usually means you have caught an allergy. An allergic reaction is caused when your body tries to ward off some external agent which is causing some disruption in the system. Of the many factors that cause allergies, the most common ones are food items like soy, milk, dairy products, peanuts etc, external atmospheric factors like dust, smoke or pollution or other types of allergens like dog fur, pollen and even medicinal drugs.

Undergoing an immediate diagnosis should be the first step to successful treatment for the condition rather than racking your brains trying to unearth the reason of the disorder yourself. After the root cause of the allergy is identified, the physician can begin the treatment of the allergic reaction with the right combination of medicines.

Antihistamines and other such anti-allergic drugs prescribed by an expert are the most popular and affordable forms of treatment. But, prevention of any allergic reaction is better than cure. If your allergy is caused by dust then you can safeguard yourself with a suitable face mask while performing house cleaning jobs or even when going outside in dusty weather conditions. Allergy causing agents can also be greatly controlled by air purifiers at your residence.

Ensure that you keep away from drugs that cause your allergy and intimate the same to the doctor or specialist before he prescribes treatments. Food allergies can easily be controlled by paying attention to your regular diet and being very particular about avoiding food items which have triggered allergies in the past.

In case your allergic attacks are so severe that they cause considerable disruption of normal life, or medications are not working adequately or you wish to prevent another attack owing to some other reasons, you can ask your doctor to recommend vaccination against the allergy. If you do this, then you can travel freely both outdoors and away from your home without fear of allergic reactions.

Consult a qualified ENT specialist for your allergy and sinus problems.
